Queensland Athletics
Registration for 2010 – 2011
In a move to promote continuity amongst athletics associations, and in
ongoing support of the relationship between Queensland Athletics and
Queensland Little Athletics, Queensland Athletics wishes to advise
clubs that the registration season dates will be changing in 2010. This
change will enable Queensland Athletics registrations to fall in line
with the registration dates offered by Queensland Little Athletics.
The results of this change will be that in 2010 Queensland Athletics
will only be offering Full Registrations from the 1st October 2010,
these Full Registrations will still be for a full year starting on 1st
October 2010 and ending on the 30th September 2011 thus encompassing
both the summer and winter seasons. Queensland Athletics will continue
to offer “Winter Only” registrations for athletes who only wish to be
registered and compete for the period of April 1 – September 30.
The result of this change means that as at the 1st April 2010
Queensland Athletics will not be offering a Full Registration, and that
all registrations offered at the 1st April 2010 will only be valid
through to 30th September 2010 when full registrations will again be
offered.

Club runs hot in battle for supremacy
UPBEAT president Ralph Newton wants Jimboomba to be Logan’s premier athletics
club - seven national representatives is a good start.
The club has made
moves recently to form a sub-branch in central Logan, reaching out to the wider
community.
Jimboomba gave itself the best possible advertisement last
weekend when two club members met the qualifying standards for December’s
Australian All Schools and Youth National Championships in Hobart.
Long
distance specialist Julian Watkins, 15, booked a spot in the 800m, 1500m and
3000m events as well as the 2000m steeplechase.
Watkins highlighted his
promise in a four-gold, two-records performance at the international Down Under
Championships on the Gold Coast, which involved more than 500 athletes.
Teammate Luke Morgan, 15, joined Watkins on the podium. He claimed silver
and a national qualifying spot in the 2000m steeplechase.
``We have a number
of other athletes who are only a fraction away from qualifying as well,’’ Newton
said.
The duo join Abbie Ryan, Jessica Pickles, Tayem Renton, Jonathan
Gabbert and Lindsay Newton-Smith in the national set-up.
