WELCOME

Our mission at Jimboomba Athletics is:

Through training and access to local competitions, we provide our athletes with the opportunity to reach their potential and achieve their personal best in a path to lifelong fitness. We promote safety, sportsmanship, dedication and the achievement of goals.

The club is a non-profit organisation established in 1985 that offers track and field programs to athletes 12 years old and above. We have certified coaches who provide training in Sprints, Walks, Jumps, Throws and Long Distance. We have a summer and winter season where athletes are provided opportunities to compete in local, regional, state and national competitions. All training takes place at the Jimboomba Athletics Centre, Henderson Road Jimboomba.

Changes to the National Pathway for Athletes 13-19 yrs

Athletics Australia has made a number of significant changes to the national competition
structure for athletes aged 13-19 years, for the 2010/2011 season. These changes provide
a clear and more defined pathway for athletes, improve quality and quantity of
competition   and   facilitate   the   transition of  athletes from schools and Little Athletics
through to Senior Athletics clubs.

The following two (2) competitions are at the forefront of the national pathway.
The main characteristics of these competitions are outlined below.

Australian All Schools (Melbourne, December 2010)

v    Primarily a state vs. state (team based) competition

    v    Age groups Under 18, Under 16 & Under 14 only

v    Limit of two athletes per event in the age groups listed above

v    Athletes selected from performance at the Queensland All Schools

Championships only (no qualifying standards apply)

v    Athletes must attend a Queensland Secondary School

Australian Junior Championships (Sydney, March 2011)

v    Considered the premier individual National Championships for athletes 13-19

years (effectively taking the place of the existing Australian All Schools model)

    v    Age groups Under 14, Under 15, Under 16, Under 17, Under 18 & Under 20.

v    Athletes selected by reaching the Athletics Australia qualifying standard at a
ratified competition from January 2010 OR  finishing1st, 2nd or 3rd at the Queensland                                 Championships held in February 2011 or at the Queensland All Schools (in October 2010)*

v    Athletes must be registered with a senior athletics club

v    Athletes must compete at the Queensland Championships to be eligible.

* Please read the selection criteria for the Australian Junior Championships carefully as
    some conditions do apply

Please contact your local senior athletics club or Queensland Athletics for further information.
Queensland Athletics will continue to conduct junior state championships throughout the year, namely the    Queensland All Schools in October 2010 and the Queensland Championships in February 2011.

Any further questions on this new pathway, please contact Ralph Newton at Jimboomba Athletics.

 Australian All Schools 2010

These championships will be held on the 4th & 5th of December at the Rieschiecks Reserve,
at George street, Doncaster, Victoria.

Australian Junior & Youth Championships 2011

Will be held on the 10th to the 13th March 2011 @ Sydney Olympic Park.
