 About Us

The Jimboomba Little Athletics Centre (JLAC) is run as a branch of Queensland Little Athletics. The Jimboomba branch was formed in 1997 and moved to its Henderson Road site a few years later.

A weekly Friday evening competition is held during the summer season. Competition commences with a compulsory warm-up at 5.45pm and concludes at around 8.30pm. Athletes compete in 4-5 different events each week on a rotating programme.

Events for U6 include: 70m, 100m, 60m hurdles, long jump, shot put and discus. Events are added as the children get older until by U13 they are competing in the full range of events offered: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 60m hurdles, 200m hurdles, long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot put, discus and javelin.

The focus is on personal improvement. Athletes receive a ticket after each event which they can stick into an achievement book each week as a record of their progress.

Athletes also have the opportunity to compete in regional and state level competitions as well as at meets conducted by other centres.

Older athletes are encouraged to take part in senior meets conducted by Queensland Athletics.

Training with the emphasis on improving fitness and learning correct technique is provided free of  charge.
