The
Jimboomba Little Athletics Centre (JLAC) is run as a
branch of Queensland
Little Athletics. The Jimboomba branch
was formed in 1997 and moved to its Henderson Road
site a few years later.
A
weekly Friday evening competition is held during the
summer season. Competition commences with a compulsory warm-up at 5.45pm
and concludes
at around 8.30pm. Athletes compete in 4-5 different events each week on a
rotating programme.
Events
for U6 include: 70m, 100m, 60m hurdles, long jump,
shot put and discus. Events are added as the children get older until
by U13
they are competing in the full range of events offered: 100m,
200m, 400m,
800m, 1500m, 60m hurdles, 200m hurdles, long jump, high jump, triple
jump, shot
put, discus and javelin.
The
focus is on personal improvement. Athletes receive a
ticket after each event which they can stick into an achievement book
each week
as a record of their progress.
Athletes
also have the opportunity to compete in regional
and state level competitions as well as at meets conducted by other
centres.
Older
athletes are encouraged to take part in senior meets
conducted by Queensland Athletics.
Training with the
emphasis on improving fitness and learning correct technique is
provided free
of charge.
